Sampling for soil testing

SOMIGRO

Sampling and shipping

Soil sampling for Biotrex analysis is very similar to sampling for chemical soil testing. However, during the analysis, we study the microorganisms that live in the soil - so it is important that they reach us in good condition. Therefore, the most important thing is how to store the sample after collection and that it reaches the laboratory as soon as possible (2-3 days after collection).
You will need a soil cane to pick up the soil (can be replaced with a shovel, shovel or longer knife) and a large, clean bucket to stir the soil. The soil sample should be placed in the bag we received. It prevents the evaporation of water from the sample and protects it from UV radiation.
Special bags for storing and shipping samples will be sent to you by courier to the address you provided when placing the order. If you want us to send bags to a different address - please contact us.
An incremental sample is each individual soil sample taken from the field. A bulk sample is created by combining and thoroughly mixing from a few to a dozen or so primary samples. It is the bulk sample that is analyzed in the laboratory. The general sample should represent an area with similar natural conditions (type, type and grade of soil, terrain) and agrotechnical conditions (forecrop, cultivation, fertilization). The area of uniform cultivation per general sample should not exceed 4 ha.
For the Biotrex test, soil should be taken from the upper layer to a depth of 20 cm (arable layer). It is best to use a soil stick to collect soil samples (do not use any tools or containers that have been in contact with fertilisers, plant protection products or other preparations used in agrotechnics). In each designated place, push the vertical stick into the soil as far as it will go (trample the freshly plowed soil beforehand), make a full turn and remove the stick. Transfer the contents of the cane to a bucket or other container. If you don't have a soil stick, you can use a knife, shovel or shovel to pick up the soil. In this case, cut a patch of soil 20 cm in diameter and 2 cm thick.
Place the incremental samples that make up one aggregate sample in the same bucket or other container and mix. Remove stones and other impurities. Do the same for each subsequent bulk sample. Put 0,5 to 1 kg of the general sample into a string bag and describe the label in a way that allows the sample to be identified (preferably the name and surname and the name of the field/sector/unit).
Do not allow the soil to dry out. Do not leave bags in the sun. Store sealed bags in a cool and shaded place. Place the bags with samples in a cardboard package and fill the free space (paper, scraper, foil, etc.) so that the bags are stable during transport. Soil samples are best shipped the same day they were collected (avoid sampling on Thursday or Friday so samples don't spend the weekend in storage).
Highly irrigated soil should not be taken for testing, as it may cause excessive growth of anaerobic bacteria. The soil should be slightly moist, but not muddy. Sampling should be avoided immediately after the application of mineral fertilizers, CPPs or organic fertilizers and during periods of drought or excessive soil moisture.
Place the bags with samples in a cardboard package and fill the free space (paper, scraper, foil, etc.) so that the bags are stable during transport.
